The default mode will still be Gathering Storm (or basic Civ VI if you haven't yet purchased the Expansion Pass) and you WON'T see the Apocalypse Mode among the Scenarios section of "Downloadable Content". When you first go into the main menu it won't look like much, if anything, has changed. If you're still having trouble at this point, it couldn't hurt to try a full reinstallation.

I've no idea whether reinstalling the game actually fixed the issue or whether the update was simply that late in becoming available. I downloaded it (it was nearly another 5GB in size so again, it took awhile) and now the game has everything including the New Frontier content.

This time (at roughly 1:45 am EST) when I started up the game it told me to install a new update to access online features (BTW, you also need to re-link your 2K account if you've done a full uninstall). Finally I uninstalled my entire game along with all the DLC and did a complete reinstall (which took awhile I HATE having to do that and only tried it as a last resort). I have the PS4 version and downloaded the New Frontier Pass at roughly midnight last night, but despite repeated restarts and checking the menus to see whether the new content was available in the settings, I was unable to see any. We'll update this article if more information comes to light.

It's a little tough to declare war from the main menu screen, though, so affected players may have to sit tight for a patch with this one. The game was subsequently patched to address the issue, although 2K Support came up with a temporary workaround that involved immediately declaring war to stop the game from crashing. Back in December players found themselves stuck when a bug crashed their game just before they were about to win following another update. This isn't the first time Civ 6 players have run into problems on Switch following an update. We fired up our base version of the game and had no problems loading a game or starting a new one, but we don't have the New Frontier Pass, so it seems that this latest update is responsible for the problems these players are experiencing. We're aware some customers on PS4 and Switch cannot access the game. However, it seems that some players on Switch and PS4 are encountering problems after downloading the new DLC. The first part of the recently announced New Frontier season pass for Sid Meier's Civilization VI has gone live today, with the Maya & Gran Colombia Pack adding two new civs (and leaders) as well as the new Apocalypse game mode, new City-States, Resources, and Natural Wonders.
